The Mind of the Overweight
It All Starts with the Mind, It All Starts with Your Perspective
Let’s start with this quote from Abraham Motherfucking Lincoln:
"Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most."
Someone who is overweight often has a habitual way of thinking that accepts eating something crappy without taking the future into consideration.
The mind of that person is often one of lower standards and disregard for the future.
(Sorry if it offends you, but I’m just telling the truth.)
Their thoughts might go something like this:
“I’m already overweight, what’s one donut?”
“I’m just so hungry, I need this.”
“I’m so stressed out, I need this donut to cheer me up.”
The standards for their health and physical appearance are lower. If you had higher standards for yourself, you wouldn’t let yourself get overweight—at least not when it comes to your health and physical appearance.
If you raise your standards for yourself, you’ll develop the discipline necessary to meet those standards.
It all comes down to what you find acceptable for yourself.
When you set higher standards, you’ll perform the right actions, eat the right food, and most importantly, think the right thoughts to get to the destination where you want to end up.
Instead of thinking:
“I’m already overweight, what’s one donut?”
You’ll think:
“I don’t allow myself to get more overweight. I will skip this donut.”
That mindset is the key to moving forward—moving towards your higher ideals and standards.
It all starts in the mind, and the actions will follow.
Is it easy?
Absolutely not. You’ll have to fight your inner thoughts day in and day out.
But that’s what builds character. That’s what builds discipline.
And all of that will result in better health and a better physique.
Most importantly, it will result in gaining confidence in yourself and trusting the process. You’ll know that you can fight those inner thoughts and come out stronger.
So ask yourself—what kind of standards do you want to live by today?
That’s it for this email.
Enjoy your Tuesday, and kind regards,
