Being Overweight Is What You Accept

Where Are Your Standards?

You’ve probably heard this famous quote:

"You don't rise to the level of your goals; you fall to the level of your systems."
– James Clear, Atomic Habits

This quote, by the way, is derived from a much older one by Archilochus:

"We don't rise to the level of our expectations; we fall to the level of our training."

Both have the same meaning behind them.

In the context of weight loss and your body: You don’t rise to the level of your body expectations; you fall to what you find acceptable.

We’re entering the mindset and spiritual realm here, so fair warning.

I think we can all agree that the more calories you consume, the bigger you get.
In other words, you become bigger by consistently consuming a lot of calories.

On the surface, it seems easy, right?
You just don’t consume high-calorie foods.

Well, it actually is.

So what is the difference between somebody who is overweight and somebody who is fit?

It’s about what they accept in life.

If you find it acceptable to be overweight, you will accept the habits that come with it.
If you don’t find it acceptable to be overweight, you won’t accept those habits.

Everyone knows what to eat for the most part.
But people have different points of view and mindsets surrounding food.

Let me tell you a little story to illustrate my point.

I work out super early in the morning (around 6:30 a.m.).
Around this time, the cleaner is still there, and I always have a chat with him before my workout.

I don’t want to offend him because he’s a very kind person, but he is really overweight.
He became that way because he finds it acceptable to eat cakes and cookies around 6 a.m. in the morning.

He thinks it’s acceptable.

I think it’s acceptable to eat cake maybe once a month, not every morning.

He knows he’ll gain weight if he keeps doing that.
But he thinks it’s just acceptable.

Well, if he accepts those habits, he should also be willing to accept the body that comes with them.
And I think he’s perfectly fine with that.

There’s nothing wrong with it.

But if you don’t accept that for yourself, then you shouldn’t accept the mindset of “Oh, what’s another cookie?”

So…

What do you accept in life?
And if you accept that, do you also accept the consequences that comes with it?

Think about and take charge of your life.
It may be hard in the beginning, but it is all worth it.

That’s it for this email!

Hope you enjoyed your Monday.
